We have been warned that there is a heightened risk of flooding in the Tring Rural Area (Wilstone, Astrope and Long Marston) . This is being managed by the Hertfordshire County Council Resilience Team.
Planning applications for the two new stations, viaduct and electricity substation for the Croxley Rail Link are being submitted this month.
County Councillor Nick Hollinghurst (Tring and the Villages) has allocated £750 from his locality budget to Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust for new equipment and tools.
Brook Street is a main through route for north and south travelling vehicles. In addition it is a signposted route for both Icknield Way Industrial Estate and Ivinghoe to the east. The speed limit between Tring High Street and Icknield Way is 30mph with many side roads providing access to residential areas and community facilities. However speed management is needed due to the vehicle speeds recorded.
Station Road is on the eastern outskirts of Tring, connecting the town centre with the Railway Station and the Grand Union Canal. This route is heavily used by commuters on foot, bike or car.
Aylesbury Road (B4635) is one of the two main routes into Tring from the A41 bypass. The other main route is the London Road (B4635), the main southern route into Tring from the A41 bypass. At the entrance to Tring for both these routes, the speed limit reduces from the National Speed Limit to 30mph. Speeding is an issue along this road as vehicles do not not slow down before the residential areas.
An extra £40 million will be added to the Disabled Facilities Grant to help people remain independent in their own homes for longer.
The Urban Transport Plan has as its basis the need to promote, implement and support a series of smarter measures to encourage the use of sustainable alternatives to private car travel for residents and visitors. This is achieved by providing the necessary infrastructures and services to enable people to make informed travel choices. However, education and promotion of the alternatives to car travel will also play a part in the overall scheme.
When Hertfordshire County Council planned its review of Children's Centres and other organisations that work with these families. It said any funding arrangements would cease at the end of March 2014. The charity that does most in this area across the County is Home Start, whose volunteers support individual families with young children in managing their day to day affairs until they are confident that they can stand on their own two feet. Home Start depend significantly on the grant they receive from HCC. By the start of this week all the 10 Branches across Hertfordshire were getting seriously concerned about their funding after April 2014 and the manager of Home Start Watford was emailing councillors for help.
The money is required under Section 106 of the Planning Act and is intended for use in social and community projects.
Given the recent levels of rain and the large amount of flooding occurring across the county it is clear that not all of this is due to the weather. Some of it is caused by the County not keeping on top of the gully cleaning - especially in winter months when leaves and road debris are likely to block the drains and gullies.
